Background

Each of us has a story; and stories need telling. The East African Community is giving you, the youth aged between 18 to 35 years, the chance to tell your story, your way. For the video makers, the animators and the storytellers, we are looking for you to revolutionise the citizens’ engagement space. You have 59 seconds to tell us what inspires you, the change you wish to see and the future EAC you want to live in.

From live-action, drama or even a documentary, the genre is entirely up to you. The total award prize is $25,000 with over 30 winners being selected form the East Africa region.

Individual or group submissions are welcome; so, you and your friends can take part.

The competition period is between 1st January to 31st March 2020.

Genre

Entrants may use any genre to produce the video or animation, the length has to be between 30 and 59 seconds.

Evaluation, selection and notification to winners

Digital media monitoring tools will be used to trace and analyse performance, winners will be notified through emails in April 2020.

Submission Process

  • Produce and submit as many videos or animations as you wish.
  • Upload on your Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or Instagram accounts.
  • Include the campaign hashtag #TheEACiDeserve in all your postings on digital channels with immediate effect.
  • Visit www.theeacideserve.com and upload your videos along with a descriptive text of maximum 1,000 characters in English or Kiswahili.
  • Match video file name with title on the entry form.
  • Your surname or of the lead youth should be part of the video file name (e.g. James-my-future-my-choice.mov)
  • Submission deadline is March 31, 2020, 23.55 hours.
